About GLOW
Gender Equality in a Low Carbon World (GLOW), 2021-2024, is a three-year programme funded by the International Development Research Centre, exploring the conditions and innovations for women’s economic empowerment and climate action in agriculture, forestry, land restoration, eco-tourism, and biocircular and blue economies.
The 12 action research projects are in: Bolivia, Cambodia, Cameroon, El Salvador, Guatemala, Guinea, Kenya, Malawi, Nepal, Nicaragua, Palestine, Philippines, Rwanda, Senegal, Tanzania, Uganda and Vietnam.
Further, a knowledge hub run by the Climate and Development Knowledge Network, SouthSouthNorth and ODI seeks to synthesise knowledge from across the programme, support peer learning among the projects and engage relevant international audiences with the findings. As well as leading the production of this report, the knowledge hub also published an early literature review and policy brief outlining the challenges and opportunities for women’s economic empowerment in low-carbon and climate-resilient transitions. Discover more about the knowledge hub here.
About this report
GLOW researchers met often to compare findings and draw out common threads of their work. This report is the result of that learning process.
The projects anchored their research in engagements and pilot development activities with communities. Thus, the key headlines and recommendations here are supported with evidence from specific places and actors across the 17 countries.
Navigate to the chapter ‘National just transitions are possible’, for a snapshot of all the country projects. Find further information about the projects at: https://glowprogramme.org/
